Yoga For Nepal

It’s difficult to know what to say when we watch something so devastating happening to people thousands of miles away.

There is a feeling of being very small in the face of something so enormous. What can one tiny human being, sitting on the other side of the world, possibly do?

And the truth is, right now, most of us can’t do very much.

We can hold the people of Nepal in our thoughts. We can send our love, our good wishes and - whatever prayer means to you - our prayers to those who have lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods, and to the communities facing what comes next.

For us at Freedom, this feels particularly close to our hearts.

We travelled to Nepal last November and spent time in Kathmandu, Chitwan and Pokhara. We made friends there, were welcomed and looked after with such warmth, and those people and places have stayed with us.

We’ve been in contact with our friends there over the last few days and, thankfully, they are safe. But they are, of course, devastated by what is happening around them. They, their families and their communities are very much in our hearts and thoughts right now.

And this November, another Freedom group will return to Nepal.

So rather than simply sitting with that feeling of helplessness, I would like us to do the small thing that we can do.

Next Sunday, 6 September at 6pm at SunFyr Barns, we’re going to gather for YOGA FOR NEPAL, a special practice woven around Om Mani Padme Hum, the Tibetan Buddhist mantra associated with compassion.

We’ll move, breathe and meditate together, holding an intention of compassion and solidarity for the people and communities affected.

There is no charge for the class. Instead, we simply ask you to make whatever donation you can directly to ActionAid’s Nepal Floods Appeal. Nothing comes through us - your donation goes straight to ActionAid.
