5 Ways to Help Your Child with Meditation and Mindfulness
Helping children learn mindfulness doesn’t mean hours of silent meditation — it can be fun, playful, and perfectly suited to young minds. More parents in are discovering that mindfulness practices support their children’s emotional wellbeing, focus, and confidence.
As a parent who raised my kids in Norwich, Norfolk, here are five simple ways I’ve found to bring mindfulness into your child’s everyday life:
Wild & Free Kids Club

Breathing Games
Start with something simple: deep breathing can be encouraged by suggesting “balloon breathing”, inflating and deflating your belly with breath whilst imagining blowing up colourful balloons, or your child could imagine “smelling a flower”, or “humming like a bee”, or “blowing out candles”. These short breathing exercises teach children how to calm themselves when they feel overwhelmed.
Mindful Art
Drawing, colouring, or crafting can be a meditative activity. Set aside time where your child can focus on shapes, colours, and patterns without worrying about the result. Many families look for an art club for kids because creativity is such a natural way into mindfulness.
Movement & Stretching
Yoga poses, gentle stretching, or even playful movement can help children connect their bodies and minds. After a long school day, a local club for kids, like Wild and Free, that includes movement alongside mindfulness can be a brilliant outlet.
Gratitude Moments
At the end of the day, ask your child to share one thing they’re grateful for. This simple practice builds positivity and helps children focus on the good around them.
Join a Local Mindfulness-Focused Club
Sometimes children respond best when they learn in a group. I recommend researching…
kids clubs
art clubs for kids
wellbeing clubs for kids
You’ll find that more clubs are weaving in mindfulness and wellbeing activities alongside arts and crafts.
Wild & Free here at SunFyr Barns, is a free kids art and wellbeing club in Norwich for ages 7–11. We created this club because we believe in a safe space where kids can create, learn and grow!
The sessions combine art, movement, and mindfulness in a fun, inclusive way — helping children learn tools for calm and creativity.
